In order to prepare for the appointment with the financial advisor here’s how to prepare.

To properly prepare for your meeting, you should get organized in 2 categories:

  • Questions
  • Current statements

Let’s start with “Questions” first

There are questions for you to consider and your questions for the financial advisor.

Questions For You

Organize your thoughts about your goals, what you want to accomplish in life, and how you are looking for a financial advisor to help guide you. Similar to other professions, all financial advisors are different. The advisor might or might not be a good fit for you or for your stated goals.

In regards to your goals, a good financial planner will ask you:

  • What financial goals do you want to achieve?
  • What’s most important to you?
  • What do you want your life to look like?

Questions For The Financial Advisor

  • Is the financial advisor a fee-based advisor or commission-based financial advisor?
  • Does the financial advisor provide investment management or only financial planning?
  • Does the financial services company offer proprietary (their own) products when they make recommendations?

Gather Statements

Don’t waste valuable time guessing what you “think” your account balances are, grab those statements. Get organized and prepare to discuss your financial life and answer any questions the financial advisor will have. You might not be able to get all of this together but it’s a great start.

  • Paystubs
  • Bank statements
  • Debt: credit cards, student loans, mortgage, etc
  • Life insurance policies and current statement
  • Investments: 401k, IRA, brokerage statements.
  • Your Will or Trust
  • Monthly budget

Is working with a Financial Advisor a good idea?

Well, it depends on what you’re looking for. Many people start out thinking a financial advisor will help them get a “higher return on their investments”. And while they might be able to, we think there is something more valuable that can be achieved: Confidence.

Studies have shown that Americans who work with a professional are nearly twice as likely as those who don’t to say they are very confident they’ll have enough money to retire.

An experienced financial advisor can provide the guidance to help you towards your goals and side-step pitfalls that derail many people.

Many people won’t achieve their goals in life. You probably know people in your life that have worked for 10, 20, and even 30 years and have little to show for all that time.  But that’s not you. You want more out of life.

We look forward to working with you!
